MINES & QUARRIES
An independent satellite layer beside your ground network.
Mines that initiate explosives electrically or run exposed conveyors already have thunderstorm procedures and, usually, a ground-sensor warning system. FlashAware adds what a ground network cannot: a geostationary view of the whole region, intra-cloud flashes that often precede the first ground stroke, and a replayable record independent of your primary vendor.
What the satellite layer adds
Region-wide cell tracking
See cells forming 150 km away and their projected track across several operations at once, not just the sensors around one pit.
Intra-cloud activity
The Lightning Imager detects total lightning, including intra-cloud flashes that ground networks tuned to cloud-to-ground strokes under-report.
An independent record
A second, vendor-independent log of what lightning did and when — useful in incident investigations and when a primary system was offline.
How mines run it
Control room and SHE
PREPARE and STOP for each shaft, pit or plant area to the control room and the responsible persons, with escalation. Viewer access for SHE managers and the group risk function. CSV export per month.
Multiple operations, one dashboard
Each operation is a site with its own radii. Group users see all operations; operation staff see their own. Priced per site with volume discounts and, where needed, API access.
Mining questions
Can FlashAware replace our ground-based lightning warning system?
No. Keep the ground network as your primary trigger. FlashAware is the independent satellite confirmation, wide-area and audit layer.
What is the data source?
The EUMETSAT Meteosat Third Generation Lightning Imager (MTG-LI) Level-2 products, ingested continuously and evaluated per site every 60 seconds. Feed health is monitored; if data stalls, sites show NO DATA FEED rather than a false ALL CLEAR.
How is it priced for a mine?
Per site, with volume pricing for multi-operation groups. Tell us the number of operations and we will quote within one working day.
Run a pilot on one operation.
We set it up with your SHE team and compare against your ground network for a month.
